Refresh with Northwest-inspired treatments at the Spa at Salish Lodge

The Spa at Salish Lodge is a tranquil place, belying the thunderous roar of Snoqualmie Falls just outside. Owned by the Muckleshoot tribe, the spa has a distinct Pacific Northwest feel to it, with cedar and natural slate floors incorporated throughout.

Last month, the spa launched treatments that use regional ingredients such as seaweed from Puget Sound and glacial water from Canada to "celebrate the rich culture and natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest," says spa director Melanie Silver. Ingredients such as coffee and green tea, often associated with Seattle, have also been incorporated into the menu.

The new services include the Green Tea and Northwest Seaweed Salt Glow ($115 for 50 minutes), which exfoliates the skin with a fine-grain salt, rejuvenates it with a clay and glacial water mask and then moisturizes it with a surprisingly nice-smelling seaweed butter.

"The seaweed for the Seaweed Body Butter is harvested twice a year from the waters of northern Puget Sound. Because it is harvested live, there is no fishy smell," explains Silver.

Caffeine wakes up more than just your mind with the Espresso Hydrating Body Wrap ($195 for 80 minutes). A foaming cleanser with citrus and coffee buffs the skin before a soothing moisturizer with coffee and orchid essence is applied to the body, which is then wrapped tight in a special sheet to allow the moisturizer to infuse the skin.

After the sheet is removed, a fragrant and decadent cream containing coffee, cocoa and shea butter is massaged into the body, leaving skin as soft and revitalized as a newborn baby's.

The last new menu item is the Northwest Mountain Man ($355 for 150 minutes), which includes a Gentlemen's Facial, Gentlemen's Back Facial and massage: the perfect package for a guy in need of some relaxation and manscaping.

The products used in the new services are made by Canadian company Beauty Through Balance and are available for purchase in the spa's store. They range in price from $34.95 to $69.95.
